Knitting
Did you learn knitting but never liked the things that you knitted? Perhaps it was because the colour or style did not flatter you. Perhaps your item never fitted! Having your own knitted garment or accessory is a great way of easily personalising your look. A range of workshops is available for knitters of all experiences – including non-knitters!
Workshops for those new (and returning to knitting!) Knitting for beginners Learn how to knit. This workshop will include some ideas on colours to suit you and we will also work with a range of yarns so you can produce a truly unique scarf that you will be sure will flatter you. (This will also include casting on and casting off and doing purl stitch)
Not quite a beginner Learn how to increase and decrease and how to uses yarns of different textures. We will also do 2 simple ways to add lacy effects.
Not another scarf! Just about competent at knitting and want to personalise your look with some accessories that you have knitted yourself? These need to be simple to do and quick to complete but you don’t want to do another scarf. Come and try these: buttons, bags, corsages, cuffs, fingerless mittens
Intermediate workshops Getting it to fit next time! This workshop will cover your basic measurements; the importance of ease; why tension samples are essential. We’ll also look at adapting patterns for different yarns.
Colour and style ideas for you Have you been disappointed with items you have knitted? Why do they look good on the pattern but even though you use the same yarn they do not look good on you. It could be that the colour is ‘wrong’ for you or that the style does not flatter your personality or body shape. All of this can be explored in a workshop and you will leave with lots of ideas for items that will look good on you.
Advanced workshops Lace knitting and knitted lace We’ll look at the different increases and decreases involved and how to read charted lace patterns. Several traditional lace patterns will be covered and we’ll learn the difference between lace knitting and knitted lace. We’ll start a scarf in a traditional Shetland pattern. (This workshop can be adapted to be more advanced for those that have some experience of lace knitting).
