When I look at ‘about us’ on websites first of all I want to know how the person/company can help me and to ‘feel’ that they are just what I am looking for. This is even more important when you are looking for an image consultant!

I will briefly explain what I do as an image consultant, how I do more than a stylist and how my skills enable me to provide a range of image related services for you.

A stylist is very much concerned with your outer appearance and often on a only expects to see you for a short period. Both an image consultant and a stylist aim to ensure that you look good. If you use a store based stylist their focus will also be on finding you a complete outfit in the store – that is why it appears to be ‘free’. One that is independent stylist is able to recommend items from a range of sources – not just the one shop.

A professional image consultant goes beyond this, as a minimum we have been trained to find out more about your needs & lifestyle; to analyse the geometry of your body; to assess your own colouring and how this can be balanced by your clothing. This will be detailed and involve you fully – it will take more than a few minutes! After this we are in a position to make suggestions that have been informed by evidence and you will then be able to apply your knowledge and understanding. Clearly the more understanding you have the more likely you are to be successful in building a wardrobe that is fit for purpose whatever the occasion. Some of us work to the exacting professional standards of the Federation of Image Consultants, the professional body of the image industry and have attained Master level status in areas of our work. Some of us work independently and really understand that you are an individual and that the advice we give you needs to be unique to you. We do not fit people into a commercial system and you can be sure that the advice you receive from me is personal to you, whether it is in colour, style or complete image. How could it  be anything else?  You are not the same as anyone else!

Some image consultants have been trained in ‘internal image’. We know that image is far more than just how you look on the outside, how you feel on the inside affects your confidence and how you present yourselves. I have undertaken training in NLP and have many years experience in bringing out the best of people both academically and in terms of confidence. More details….

Beyond that a few image consultants have an extensive working knowledge of fibres and fabrics. This aspect of my life I regard essential to the quality of advice I can give to my clients. I know which fibres will work where, which fabrics will drape, which can work with curves! I spin fibres into yarn and I dye fibres.  I weave, felt and sew and knit (by hand and machine) fibres into fabrics and also teach these skills in workshops for beginners to more advanced students. I love working with fabrics and clothes and make a point of helping my clients to make the most of their existing wardrobe – often a small modification, like altering the sleeves of a top can make such a difference.
